Meditation and Embodiment
A nondogmatic but serious space for exploring the mind, body, and consciousness.
What This Is
We meet up and talk for a few minutes. I'll bring a topic and a meditative or somatic practice; you're always welcome to bring your own. Then we practice together and discuss what came up or what's alive for us in recent practice.
This class is nondogmatic; we're not committing to any one tradition or metaphysics, but it is a little bit serious. We'll talk about some wild stuff and follow it where it goes, without losing our critical thinking on the way. We'll be real about the potential and the risks of practice. This isn't (just) light mindfulness.
I want this "class" to turn into an ongoing meetup: people who actually keep practicing and experimenting over time. If there's interest, we'll also take occasional field trips like qigong lessons, outdoor yoga, and other embodied practices out in the world.
Format
- Check-in: a few minutes to arrive and connect.
- Topic: I introduce a theme or idea for the session - I've got lots of ideas, but you can submit one in advance too.
- Practice: we do a practice together, related to the topic. Same deal with suggesting one. Expect practice to be half the total course time.
- Discussion: we share what came up during the group practice or our own practice from the previous week and compare notes.
Schedule
Dates and cadence are still being set. If you'd like to be notified when the first session is scheduled, email me.
Location
Location provided to attendees. Field trips, if we do them, will be announced ahead of time.
Who It's For
Anyone who is interested in exploring meditation and somatic work.
Your Facilitator
In 2021, despite "doing well," I was suffering from multiple mental and physical issues that severely reduced my quality of life. Since then, I've spent well over a thousand hours learning and doing things to try to feel better - meditation, somatic work, breathwork, movement, and more. More than just raising my quality of life, it's been a heck of an adventure. Now I'm excited to explore this space alongside other people. Professionally, I've worked as a software developer, teacher, and tutor.
