back to How To Feel Better
Class 2: Getting to Know You
Homework & Notes
Homework
- Dance! Listen to some of your favorite music this week. See if there's any impulse to move your body. Is it fun? Is there resistance? What is the flavor of whatever sensation arises?
- Try one of these grounding exercises in a neutral moment:
- While sitting or lying down, feel your feet or body pressing against the surface you're resting on. See if you can sink down into that weight just a little bit. Let your out-breaths slow just a little bit. You can do this anywhere, which is convenient.
- Let your eyes gently wander from one object in your view to another. Take note of the shapes, sizes, colors before moving to the next object. Eyes moving horizontally helps activate the "orienting response" which helps the body settle.
- Optional: If you would like to explore how many people perceive sensations and emotions in the body, this web interactive that I made might be helpful for you: Sensation Map
- Optional: If you feel like you're starting from a really negative baseline and even gentle practices suck, you might find an article I wrote worth reading: If It's Supposed to Feel Good, Why Doesn't It?
