How To Feel Better
Experientially exploring the vast space of modern techniques and ancient practices for increasing well-being, while maintaining critical thinking.
Presented in collaboration with Praxis Community University.
Class schedule - Spring 2026 Term
6:30pm - 7:15pm Pacific on the following Tuesdays: February 3, 10, 24; March 3, 10. The week including Feb 17 is a break week for Praxis.
Location
Serra Mesa, San Diego. Address provided to enrollees.
Course Description
Over five weeks, we'll survey a wide range of approaches to enhancing our subjective experience - meditation, somatic work, breathwork, therapeutic modalities, movement practices, and more. We'll try things out together, poke at what doesn't make sense, share what resonates, and help each other navigate this space intelligently.
Each class will include a lecture, some shared practice, and a discussion. We will also have "homework" - one practice each week to try on your own time. Homework will take no more than 30 minutes per week.
Tentative Curriculum
- Foundations: orientation, safety, mind-body, physical conditions, mindset, personal note
- Embodiment: somatic work, nervous system hygiene, tension, trauma
- Attention and Sensory Processing: deep dive into meditation and related practices
- Cognitive Approaches: Gratitude, therapy, parts-work, suffering, mental models
- Integration: the "neurotic cluster", how good can good get?, high-leverage health tips, discussion
In-Person vs Remote
In-person attendance is encouraged if you are local to San Diego, but we accept remote applications.
Your Instructor
In 2021, despite "doing well", I was suffering from multiple mental and physical issues that severely reduced my quality of life. Since then, I've spent over a thousand hours learning and doing things to try to feel better - and it's helped a lot. Now I'm excited to share a few of the things that I've learned along the way. Professionally, I've worked as a software developer, teacher, and tutor.
